Google wanted to create buzz for its flagship phone by giving away phones at an exclusive influencer event. The design project started with a question: what do you give people who already have the latest and greatest stuff? Certainly not more stuff. People remember experiences more than things and so the kit was designed around creating an unexpected and luxurious unboxing experience. Brushed aluminum echoed the phone’s all aluminum shell, while soft touch trays and a letterpress welcome letter added to the kit’s tactile qualities. And the phone’s fingerprint button was referenced to lead users through the kit to the phone.
